Wigan Borough Carers Strategy

Do you help a family member, friend or loved one who could not manage without your support?

We'd like to hear from you!

We want to hear from our unpaid carers from all communities across the borough.

A carer is anyone who provides unpaid care to a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, mental health or an addiction and cannot cope without their support.

Unpaid Carers play a significant role in our communities and we want you to feel valued and heard. We want to work together with you and our partners across social care, health and voluntary, community, faith, community organisations to hear your views and experiences and understand matters to you most. Your voice is important and we want to listen.

Only your views and experiences can help us to shape our new commitments to all unpaid carers across the Wigan borough. We invite you to work in collaboration with us and create the new all age Carers Strategy and identify the next steps in working together for a better borough.

The difference it will make

  • Understanding the lived experience of unpaid carers in our borough
  • Working together to identify priorities and how we can address these
  • Co-producing a refreshed all age Carers Strategy setting out borough wide commitments to unpaid carers

How can you get involved?

Phase one, open conversations- an engagement workshop welcoming all carers and partners to share their views, experiences and thoughts through open conversations. This will be the start of identifying key priorities through the voice of lived experience.

Phase two, targeted conversations- through information gathered at the workshop further targeted conversations will take place through a survey and focus groups with carers and community groups.

Phase three, agreeing priorities- further conversations on agreeing priorities and how we can work together to address these.

Phase four, creating the strategy-through understanding what is most important, we will work together to define our borough wide commitments in the refreshed all age Carers Strategy.
