The type of accommodation proposed for the site has been agreed in response to our current housing needs. There is an identified shortage of one bedroom accommodation suitable for single people and couples. This site is a small infill site and is more suited to this type of development rather than family homes. Across our new homes programme we are developing a mix of homes, including family housing on other approriate sites. The scheme will comprise of twelve 1 bedroom/ 2 person cottage style apartments. All first and subsequent lettings of the homes will be to applicants in priority groups in accordance with the council’s allocations policy and local housing need. The properties will be mainly let to single people in need of council accommodation, although couples may also be considered for some of the units. The accommodation has been specifically designed to provide a safe and affordable home for these residents.

I am an Independent Councillor in Ince and Scholes Ward. As you are aware there is a housing crisis and a desperate need for family homes. I am not opposed to the apartments in principle as long as they are allocated to local people who are on the waiting list, and have no anti social behaviour and substance abuse related issues. I will make further comments after consultation with constituents.
