Separate Cycle Lane on A49 Poolstock Lane to Bryn Motorway Junction

From "West Wigan Engagement"

Go to the project

The A49 road between Poolstock Lane and the motorway junction at Bryn is extremely busy with many heavy goods vehicles. There is a narrow cycle lane. Our club will not use the route as it is too dangerous. There is no off road permitted cycle route from Worsley Mesnes to Ashton. It is very rare when driving to see a cyclist in the cycle lane. There appears to be adequate room to provide a protected cycle lane away from busy traffic. This would enable people who work in Ashton and social cyclists to use the route safely.

Any cyclist using this cycle lane must have a death wish. Motorists are supposed to leave 1.5 metres when passing cyclists but not many do so this is one cycle lane that I will not use.
