Traffic reduction The Dales Leigh

From "Next Steps"

Go to the project

Many cars use Ennerdale Road as a rat run to avoid the Island at Green Lane and access Holden Road. (red line on map)

There is a playing field behind part of Ennerdale Road and it is a family area, as is Edale Road and Patterdale. Part of this is intended to be part of St Thomas school

There is also a problem with no traffic markers at the junction of Ennerdale and Hawkhurst so no one is sure who has right of way.

Proposal.1 Road markings to show right of way at the junction of Ennerdale and Hawkhurst to prevent an accident. (black dot on map)

Proposal 2 Traffic calming measures on all three Dales roads, to ensure traffic sticks to the 20mph. (green dot on map)

Proposal 3 Making Ennerdale a one way street or accessible only to residents, emergency services, visitors and blue badge holders.

Proposal 4 Restrict access (black line) to emergency vehicles and bin trucks at the edge of the field.

Proposal 5 Also a zebra crossing to be reinstated at the junction of Hawkhurst st and Holden Road where the crossing patrol operates during school hours. It is almost impossible to cross Holden road at this location due to traffic, especially for elderly and disabled persons.

Proposal 6 Develop the backs behind the streets that are currently not gated, tarmac and gate them for security as we get a good number of burglaries in this area.

Proposal 1 could also apply to Junction of Whitfield Street and Ennerdale. Proposal 2 needs to be done ASAP. Proposal 3 I don't think this proposal is feasable especially the one way idea. Proposal 4 That is part of Whitfield Street and should be made roadworthy and with a traffic calming measure included. Proposal 5 I think any proposed crossing on holden Road should be about 30 metres away from the junction mentioned either way. Proposal 6 That back alley and all the others round the dales need gating definitely.

@Allan Price Good point about Whitfield St. HOw do you feel about making them residents (and guests) parking only?

@Lynda Nutter if it was guests as well that's fine. As for the one way in Ennerdale. I think there would be times when you need to go in any direction like roadworks, accidents at one end of the street or on the main roads adjoining the street. There needs to be an alternative route in and out. How would vehicles at the bottom of Ennerdale get in and out if its one way?
@Allan Price The map shows the two side streets only as one way. The three mains have to be both for safety and yes, they're dead ends. Traffic calming is much more sensible for sure.
