Housing Context

Across the country and here in Wigan borough there is unprecedented and growing demand for affordable housing. Wigan Council’s Housing Register has more than doubled over the last few years to about 15,000 applicants.

Through our new build housing programme, we are working proactively to deliver sustainable, affordable homes, in line with current and future housing legislation, and the need to play our part in tackling climate change.

Cherry Tree Grove

The council actively manages its land and property to ensure that it is used to best effect to meet local priorities; including delivering much-needed good quality, affordable homes and the land at Cherry Tree Grove, Leigh has been identified as a potential site for a small development of new homes.

Proposals

We are looking to develop 12 x 1 bed apartments on the site for affordable rent. The properties would be mainly let to single people in need of council accommodation, although couples may also be considered for some of the units. The proposed scheme has been designed to meet local housing needs and all the homes would be owned and managed by Wigan Council.
