Parental Survey for Breakfast and After School Childcare

About this survey

The Department of Education's ambition is that all parents in England with primary school aged children will be able to access wraparound childcare in their local area between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm from Monday to Friday during the school term by 2026.

You're viewing real-time data. Participant counts are continuously updated for administrators. Please note that regular users see cached data, which may result in slight differences in the numbers.

Why should you get involved?

Your feedback in this survey will help Wigan Council identify any gaps in before and after school childcare services within the Borough, identify any likely future demand for services for individual schools and help us ensure that there is enough childcare services to meet the needs of all working parents.

The expansion of services needed to meet parental demand may include the delivery of services by a range of childcare providers, such as a local childminder, private or voluntary organisation not necessarily the school your child attends.

Not all schools have the space to set up a childcare service within school and in these circumstances alternative local premises will be considered.

Completing the Survey

If you have children that attend different primary schools then you will need to complete a separate survey for each school they attend.

Please be aware the number order of questions will be dependant on how you respond to a question, as you will be directed to the next relevant question to you.

What is wraparound care?

Wraparound care is before and after school childcare for primary school aged children in England during term time, such as breakfast clubs and regular after school provision that runs until 6 pm or later. The care should be available every school day outside of regular school hours and is aimed at helping parents access more childcare and work the hours they want to. This is different from out-of-school activities, or school clubs, which are less frequent and can be a one-off activity. Around 60 percent of primary schools across England currently offer wraparound care, both before and after school.

Private, voluntary, and independent providers, including childminders and early years settings, are also able to offer wraparound care. Often, it’s run on a school site or another setting in the local area.
